Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
Patrick Lowery threw four innings without allowing a hit, but the Owlz lost 4-2 to the Ogden Raptors on Monday evening, which eliminates Orem from playoff contention.
Orem got off to a rough start today, as Michael Roth surrendered four runs in two-plus innings. He allowed the first three men to reach, with the big blow coming from Jeremy Rathjen, who hit a three-run home run only three batters into the game.
Rathjen's home run was all that Carlos Frias and the rest of the Raptors pitchers needed. Frias was stellar, giving up one unearned run in six innings of work. Orem did have its chances against Frias, putting men on in every inning besides for the 2nd, but a couple of double plays doomed the Owlz.
The bright spots for Orem came in the form of Yancarlos Santiago and Patrick Lowery. Santiago and Lowery combined for seven shutout innings. Santiago did not allow a hit in his three innings of work, but did walk two. Lowery had two men reach on errors, but he did not allow a hit or walk in his four innings on the mound.
Jose Rondon had his first multi-hit game as an Owl, going 3-for-4 with two singles and a double. However, it was Rondon that made a big base-running mistake, taking off from second base on a ground ball, when third base was already occupied. He ended up getting doubled up on the grounder to the pitcher.
The Owlz have officially been eliminated from playoff contention, but Orem still has three games left to go! The final home game is all about the kids on Tuesday night! It will be a Something for Every Kid night, as well as a Kidz Club Night, so come out and support Orem in its final home game.
