October 8, 2010 - Professional Arena Soccer League (PASL)
Louisville Lightning News Release
The Louisville Lightning Reserve Team will take part in their first competition of the 2010-2011 season this weekend when they play in the inaugural Hoosier Cup Indoor Soccer Tournament. The tournament will be hosted by the Evansville Crush, who begin their first season in the PASL Premier this fall.
The Lightning Reserve Team met for the first time on Sunday, but it's going to be a quick learning process for the team. Coach Jason Harden has been putting his squad through intense practice sessions early this week to prepare them for their first competition this weekend. The team will travel west to Evansville, Indiana to take part in the first-ever Hoosier Cup Indoor Soccer Tournament.
The tournament is a two day, double-elimination tournament featuring six teams from across the midwest. In addition to the Lightning Reserve Team, the hosts Evansville Crush, Rochester Rhinos, Paducah Wildcats, Illinois Piasa, and Cincinnati's UFC Eagles will also take part in the competition.
For the Evansville Crush, it's a tremendous kickoff to their first season of PASL competition. "We are very excited about hosting the inaugural Hoosier Cup Tournament here in Evansville," Crush Owner Chip Rossetti said. "We have a great group of teams coming in and we are anticipating a fantastic weekend of indoor soccer. The fact that we can have a great organization like the Louisville Lightning participating with us just makes the tournament that much more exciting. We are going to be able to showcase some great indoor soccer teams to the people of Evansville."
The tournament will serve as a qualifying round for the US Open Cup. The winner of the Hoosier Cup Tournament will face the Louisville Lightning at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex on December 10th. All Hoosier Cup games are free and open to the public. Evansville, Indiana is located just two hours west of Louisville on I-64.
