Louisville Lightning News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY (February 23rd, 2012) -- The Louisville Lightning battle for first place in the Eastern Division Friday night against the Detroit Waza in what will very likely be the most exciting home game of the season. The Lightning currently sits in second place in the division, just a half game back from the Waza. This is the last regular season game of the year for the Lightning, while Detroit will head North Saturday for their final match against the Cincinnati Kings on Saturday.
Both Louisville and Detroit have already locked-in home field advantage for the first round of the PASL Playoffs. However, Friday's match could mean the difference in advancing to the semi-final and final rounds held in San Diego, California March 9 and 10. The Lightning's first round playoff match is scheduled for March 2, at Mockingbird Valley Sports Complex against one of three opponents (the Kansas Magic, Illinois Piasa, or Cincinnati Kings) depending on the result of this Friday's match.
"I'm very excited that we have already earned a spot in this year's playoffs and I really want to end the season in first place," said second year Lightning defender, OT Yanez. "We've beaten all three potential competitors during the season so it doesn't matter to me who we play in the playoffs."
To further capitalize on the home field advantage in hopes of earning a more favorable first round opponent and possible division crown, the Lightning asks fans to help 'BLACK-OUT' the Waza Friday night. Lightning supporters are invited to wear black shirts and the first 250 fans to arrive will receive free 'BLACK-OUT' t-shirts sponsored by Molly Malone's Irish Pub and Restaurant.
As part of the Lightning's Strike the City campaign to bring awareness to local groups and causes in the Louisville community, the Lightning will also be supporting the Dare to Care Food Bank at Friday's game. Spectators are encouraged to bring a canned food item to support the Dare to Care Food Bank. Donating a canned good will also result in a $3 savings off the price of a $10 ticket at the door.
This Lightning home game also features a free kid's zone, free parking and shuttle bus services at King Fish Restaurant, $1 Budweiser products until the end of halftime as part of the Yellow Cab Happy Hour, entertainment from DJ JayBird and the Lightning Ladies Dance Team, and non-stop action on the field with some of the best soccer players in the region!
