Louisville City FC News Release
Louisville, KY (May 12th, 2015) -- Only twice all season had Louisville City FC (3-1-3, 12 points) tallied more than one goal in a match and heading into Tuesday night's clash with Wilmington, the new club had yet to score more than one goal in a half. Lou City exploded for three goals in the first 42 minutes of the match and the hosts cruised by Wilmington three to nil.
The Wilmington Hammerheads (1-5-2, 5 points) controlled possession in the attacking third in the early going but it was Louisville who would get on the board first for the fifth time this season. In the 16th minute Juan Guzman intercepted a Hammerhead pass, and found fellow midfielder Magnus Rasmussen, who drilled a shot through a defender and into the back of the net. For Rasmussen, he became the first Lou City player to net his second of the year.
A 1-0 halftime lead has been a familiar score line for the men in purple, but tonight the 4,911 fans in attendance would be treated to a couple more first half scores.
In the 40th minute, newly signed Aodhan Quinn rocketed a left-footed strike from 20-yards out that banged off the post and bounced in to double the hosts lead at 2-0. For Quinn, it was his first shot in a Louisville City FC jersey and it couldn't have been for a better first impression for the 23-year-old from San Diego, California.
Just two minutes later, Louisville City put a third in the back of the net, this time courtesy of defender Conor Shanosky. The 6-foot-4 center back got above the pack in front of the net and headed in the corner sent in beautifully from Niall McCabe.
City would create many more chances in the second half, but they were unable to add a fourth. However, the three first half goals would be more than enough.
Even when, Louisville City goalkeeper, Scott Goodwin was tested, the Charlotte, North Carolina native was not letting anything through tonight. In stoppage time, Sunny Jane made a nice move in the box and fired a shot destined for the back of the net, but Goodwin stretched to his right to make his fourth save of the match. That would ultimately preserve his third clean sheet of the season.
Louisville City FC will be back at home this Saturday, May 16th when they take on Toronto FC II. The match is scheduled for 7:30 pm at Louisville Slugger Field. Fans can purchase tickets by visiting www.louisvillecityfc.com/tickets
