East Lansing, MI -- In the club's first ever appearance in the 102 year-old U.S. Open Cup, Louisville City FC took a business like approach into their match-up with NPSL's Lansing United. Thanks to an early second half goal from Charlie Adams and some great play from goalkeeper Greg Ranjitsingh, City will move on to the 3rd round with a 1-nil victory.

An overflow of fans at East Lansing Soccer Complex were loud the entire match, despite not having a too much to cheer about early on. Lan U looked to connect on long balls to their forwards, but never challenged Ranjitsingh in the first 45 minutes.

Louisville City had the best opportunity of the half when Bryan Burke played in a beautiful cross to Magnus Rasmussen. The midfielder put it just inches over the bar and the clubs went to the locker room scoreless.

Coming out of the break Louisville City FC continued to control possession, and needed only three minutes to do all of the scoring they would need. Off of a corner kick, Adams played the ball to the short corner to Rasmussen, who laid it back to Adams. The 21-year-old Englishman got his laces behind the ball, and sent a rocket humming toward the Lansing goal. It would take a ricochet off of Matt Brown of Lan U, redirecting the ball past the keeper, into the back of the net.

With City in the lead, Lansing United began to go on the offensive. Ranjitsingh came up with two huge plays on back-to-back corners in the 62nd minute to keep the hosts from tying things up. The first-year pro was asked to come up big again in the 73rd minute, and in his first true start, he did just that.

With the match coming to a close, the visitors looked to tack on the exclamation point. In the 88th minute, Burke took the ball all the way to endline before sending in a shot that was deflected by Lansing keeper, Quinn McAnaney. The ball popped right up for a Matt Fondy header, bound for the net. McAnaney cooly got his left paw on it for a huge save that kept Lan U in the match and led to a counter attack. Ade Adeniyi got into the attacking third and fired a shot that caused the crowd to erupt with what they thought was an equalizer. Much, to the disappointment of the Lan U faithful the shot had gone just wide.

Lansing United pushed hard in the dying minutes to level things up, but Louisville City FC's defense stood firm for the clubs 5th clean sheet across all competitions this season.

In the middle of back-to-back matches with rivals, Saint Louis FC, Louisville will travel to Indianapolis for the third round of the U.S. Open Cup. The match is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27th.
