Louisville City FC's Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run will continue on May 10 or 11 with a Round of 32 game at Detroit City FC.
Pairings were set Thursday following this week's Third Round action, which saw LouCity advance past St. Louis CITY SC in a penalty kick shootout to remain unbeaten across all competitions in 2022. Detroit moved on thanks to an upset of Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew at Keyworth Stadium, where LouCity will travel next month.
Open Cup games stream live on ESPN+, with LouCity games also heard locally on ESPN Louisville's 680/105.7.
LouCity has played in five previous U.S. Open Cup editions - the knockout, national championship tournament paused in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic - and three times has advanced past the Third Round. In 2018, the boys in purple went as far as the quarterfinals, topping MLS' New England Revolution in the process.
LouCity is one of five USL Championship clubs left in the 2022 Open Cup along with Detroit, Phoenix Rising FC, San Antonio FC and Sacramento Republic FC. Going back to 2016, the boys in purple defeated Detroit in a Second Round penalty kick shootout in the clubs' only prior meeting. However, they'll become much more familiar with one another this year with Detroit newly in the USL Championship.
Following the Open Cup's Round of 32 are the Round of 16 (May 24-25), Quarterfinals (June 21-22), Semifinals (July 26-27) and Final (Sept. 6, 7, 13 or 14).
Home teams for each round are determined by random selection among those who apply to host. Clubs whose venue meets minimum tournament standards are given priority.
