OCSC Eliminated from Us Open Cup by LAFC
April 21, 2022 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Orange County SC News Release
Orange County SC fell, 5-1, to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC in the Third Round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup tournament on Wednesday, April 20 at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, CA. OCSC forward Erick 'Cubo' Torres scored the lone OCSC goal.
With this being the first time that OCSC has faced LAFC, the stakes were not only a shot at history by defeating a higher division club, but also the chance to advance to the next round of the domestic tournament.
It was the visitors who nearly silenced the loud home crowd with a long range shot from OCSC midfielder Milan Iloski that forced the LAFC goalkeeper to track back and make a save.
LAFC opened their scoring with a goal from Danny Musovski. The lead ticked up to 3-0 before the end of the first half thanks to a first half brace from Christian Arango. The last two goals were scored by Cal Jennings and Musovski in the second half.
OCSC pushed to get back into the match with chances off set pieces and crosses through the second half. In the 73', Cubo bagged his second goal in two games with a close range shot from a corner kick.
With the loss, OCSC is eliminated from the tournament. OCSC returns to USL Championship action with a Sunday matinee on April 24 against Indy Eleven on ESPN Deportes at 2:30pm PDT.
