St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release
St. Joseph, MO-The 'Snakes were hoping to leave their six-game losing streak in Sioux City when they returned home to take on division-leading Lincoln Tuesday night, but Lincoln never trailed in a 9-5 win. The Saltdogs (14-3) won their seventh in a row while St. Joe (5-13) lost their season worst seventh straight in a sloppy game at Phil Welch Stadium.
The two teams combined for 11 walks, five wild pitches, a passed ball, an error and a balk.
Lincoln scored first with a pair in the second, including Pichi Balet's solo home run, his first of the year, for a 2-0 lead. But St. Joe responded right away on Jefferson Infante's two-run double in the home half to even it at two.
Lincoln's offense was relentless, scoring in six of their nine at bats, and they would get single runs in the fourth and fifth to lead 4-2 before Infante responded again. This time a two-out, two-run single in the fifth evened the game back up at four.
The 'Dogs would then push across a pair in the sixth after Shingo Mitsumori hit the leadoff hitter for a 6-4 lead. The 'Snakes would get one back in their sixth when Jimmy Mojica singled, and came around to score on two wild pitches and a passed ball. St. Joe was within 6-5.
But the Saltdogs would salt it away with a solo home run by Cory Harris in the seventh and two more runs in the ninth for the 9-5 final.
Mitsumori (0-2) picked up the defeat as Ben Fox (4-0) was not sharp for Lincoln, but good enough to be the first in the league to four wins. Jefferson Infante led the 'Snakes attack with three hits, including two doubles, and a career-high tying four runs batted in.
St. Joe and Lincoln will meet again Wednesday in the middle game of the series. Donovan Graves (1-1) will start for the Blacksnakes against Lindsay Gulin (3-0) for the 'Dogs. Game time is 7:05pm with the gates at Phil Welch Stadium opening at 6pm. Our broadcast begins at 6:45pm with the Heartland Health Pre-Game Show.
