St. Joseph Blacksnakes News Release

St. Joseph, MO-Scoring first in the second inning, the Lincoln Saltdogs (15-3) would not relinquish the lead and send St. Joe (5-14) to their eighth straight loss, 5-1. St. Joe now looks to avert consecutive sweeps in the series finale Thursday night at Phil Welch Stadium.

The 'Dogs struck first for a two-out run off starter Donovan Graves when Ryan Priddy singled in Paul Powell to make it 1-0. Both hits came after two were out. Lincoln then pushed across a pair in the fourth after a lead off walk. The second run would score on a two-out single by Jay Yaconetti and it was 3-0 Lincoln.

But St. Joe would get a run back in the fourth when former Saltdog Jake Whitesides tripled in Cody Nowlin for a two-out run to get within 3-1. The 'Snakes would then load the bases on a couple hit batsmen, but could not get the big two-out hit.

In the fifth they again loaded the bases, but Cody Nowlin bounced into a double play to end the threat. Lincoln would then put the game out of reach on Brett Cooley's two-run homer in the seventh for the 5-1 final.

Lindsay Gulin (4-0) pitched in and out of danger over seven innings for the win, while Donovan Graves (1-2) finished allowing five runs in 6 2/3 innings for the loss.

Scooter Jordan had a couple of hits, as did Josh Buhagiar for the 'Snakes, but Jimmy Mojica ended his 12-game hitting streak by going 0-for-3.

After being swept in Sioux City, the 'Snakes try to avoid that fate Thursday night against Lincoln in the finale at 7:05pm. Andrew Edwards (0-1) starts for the 'Snakes, and Jeff Blitstein (1-0) goes for Lincoln. It is Thirsty Thursday at the ballpark and the gates open at 6pm for the 7:05pm first pitch. Our webcast will begin at 6:45pm on www.stjoeblacksnakes.com.
