
Los Fresnos Night to be Observed July 12

Los Fresnos Community Night will be observed at Harlingen Field on Thursday, July 12, when the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings professional baseball club goes against the McAllen Thunder.
To get the festivities started, Los Fresnos Mayor Polo Narvaez is scheduled to throw out the first ball, just before the game begins at 7:05 p.m., to help get the recognition of the Los Fresnos area underway.
Indian Lake Mayor Barbara Cullum and Bayview Mayor Leon Deason also are invited to be "first ball" throwers
The Los Fresnos High School Naval JROTC Color Guard has been invited to present the colors at the opening game ceremony. Miss Los Fresnos, Miss Junior Miss Los Fresnos and Little Miss Los Fresnos also are scheduled to attend as guests of the WhiteWings, while local resident Kathleen Clark will sing the National Anthem.
Reserved seat discount tickets ($4.00) for the game are available at the Los Fresnos Area Chamber of Commerce officeat the Wells Fargo Bank building or with Simon Vega at Little Graceland.
"Bayview and Indian Lake residents also are are included in the invitation to attend because they certainly are a part of the Los Fresnos community," said WhiteWings General Manager Doug Robinson .
"We have a number of WhiteWings fans in the Los Fresnos area and we want to show our appreciation by inviting the citizens of the overall community to their night, at discounted prices," Robinson said. "I have always been treated kindly here, including when I addressed the chamber before the 2012 season began."
"To me, this is a personal invitation to my friends and acquaintences in Los Fresnos,' said WhiteWings Community Relations Director Jerry Deal. "This is a special place to me and I have a close relationship with many people," said Deal, who operated a newspaper here for more than three years and has since been greatly involved in working for the Los Fresnos News.
It is because of his relationships that he selected Los Fresnos to be the first of seven communitiy areas to be cited at the special nights during the season, Deal said.
"I would like to see Los Fresnos area folks transplanted together at Harlingen Field for a couple of hours for some good family entertainment," Deal said.
