Los Angeles rolls through final preparations, 97-74, over Beijing
November 2, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Southern California Surf News Release
Head Coach Andre Smith was pleased with the offensive development of his Aftershock roster, but wanted to see whether the defense against Fresno was a fluke. Jamar Cramer, Corey Williams and Jason Braxton took care of the defense while Nick Sheppard carried the offensive load in the 97-74 win over the Aoshen (Beijing) Olympians in Maywood Wednesday.
Playing without Darwin Carter and Giuliana Mendiola, the Aftershock got off to a great start behind Ramel "Rock" Lloyd and his three early three pointers. Sheppard and Marcus Mason did their share with a combined 9 points, and the Aftershock took a 27-12 lead after one period.
The second period was more of the same defensively for Los Angeles, as they held the Beijing team to 6 field goals in the entire first period. Cramer came off the bench to add a spark on both ends as he had three steals and 5 points in the quarter as the Aftershock lead 46-25 at half-time.
Adama N'Diaye and Huo Nan got the offense going for the Olympians as they cut into the Aftershock lead early in the third quarter. Sheppard responded with 10 points of his own to keep the game out of reach for Los Angeles. the fourth quarter provided great signs for Beijing as Jin Xin and Yan Song Tao combined for 4 three-pointers. Cramer joined Sheppard for 13 points as the Aftershock cruised to its second exhibition win.
Sheppard finished with 26 points and 9 rebounds while Lloyd finished with 17. Cramer added 12 points and 5 assists to go along with 4 steals, while Williams added 10 points and 5 blocks for Los Angeles. Xin led the Aoshen team with 17 points while N'Diaye added 16 points. The two teams meet in the regular season November 12th at LA College Southwest. Los Angeles opens its season Saturday, November 5th at 7pm, and the game can be heard at www.laaftershock.com.
