The Great Lakes Loons and the Midland Downtown Development Authority (DDA) are pleased to announce an Opening Day Celebration parade will take place in downtown Midland to celebrate the kickoff of the Loons' 2010 season on Sunday, April 11, 2010.

The parade will kick off at noon on Main Street near the corner of Gordon Street in downtown Midland, travel down Main Street and finish on the corner of Main and Cronkright Streets. The parade will include Loons players, high school marching bands, previous grant recipients from the Michigan Baseball Foundation, as well as community businesses and organizations.

The Opening Day Celebration parade and festivities are free and open to the public. Hot dogs, cookies and bottled water will be provided on the corner of Main and McDonald Streets, courtesy of Northwood University and the Midland Downtown Business Association. Upon the completion of the parade, there will be opening day festivities held at Dow Diamond. Live music, face painting and inflatable bounce houses will be spread across Dow Diamond's front lawn. There will also be a home run derby challenge set up on the front lawn, to give kids a chance to swing for the fences.

"Opening Day is special for a number of reasons," said Paul Barbeau, Loons president and general manager. "It signifies the start of a new season and the start of Spring, which I'm sure many throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region are eagerly waiting to arrive. We are excited to be partnering with the DDA for the event and want the Opening Day Celebration to be a great community event. It will also be an opportunity to show support to the new players that will be joining the Loons this season."

"Downtown Midland is thrilled to support the Great Lakes Loons on their opening day and all season long!" said Denise Hufford, Event Coordinator for the Downtown Development Authority. "The Great Lakes Loons are terrific neighbors, partners, and community members and we're proud to be part of this community celebration."

Following the parade and celebration is the Loons 2010 home opener, scheduled for 3:05 PM versus the Lansing Lug nuts. Tickets for the 2010 season home opener are available and can be purchased by visiting the Loons' ticket office at Dow Diamond, going to Loons.com or by calling 989-837-BALL.
