Knoxville Smokies News Release
Sevierville, Tenn. - The Tennessee Smokies (25-17) lost the final game of a four game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts (18-24) 5-2 Sunday afternoon. Chattanooga won the series at Smokies Park taking three games out of four.
Tennessee's Rhett Parrott (L, 2-4) allowed four runs on 6 hits and 6 walks in only 4 innings of work. Although the Smokies bullpen pitched well in relief, holding the Smokies within striking distance, they could not get the offense they needed to pull it off in the end.
Stephen Smitherman continued his hot streak for the Lookouts hitting his 3rd home run of the series off Parrott in the fourth inning. He finished the night 1 for 3 with 2 RBI's. Chattanooga's pitching also did the Smokies in, facing starter John Koronka (W, 4-3). Koronka threw 8-plus innings, scattering 7 Tennessee hits while only allowing two runs.
The Smokies begin a series against the Birmingham Barons beginning Monday at 7:15 p.m. Tomorrow's matchup will feature Jeremy Cummings (4-3) for the Smokies facing Neal Cotts (5-1) for Birmingham.
