Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
GREENVILLE, S.C. â Greenville Braves starter Matt Belisle retired 20 of the first 21 batters he faced in an 11-1 routing of the Suns in front of 1,366 fans Sunday at Municipal Stadium.
The Suns (19-23) managed just one baserunner until two outs in the seventh. Jesus Feliciano led off the fourth inning with a home run to right field. It was Feliciano's first home run since June 8, 2001.
Not without their share of highlights, the Suns turned a triple play in the second inning. As Jason Fitzgerald and Ryan Langerhans both were running on the play, Victor Diaz caught a line drive hit by Richard Lewis, tagged second to retire Fitzgerald and threw to first to record the final out.
But the Suns' pitching wasn't as stellar as its defense. Jacksonville starter Tommy Farmer (2-3) left trailing 7-1 in the fifth inning. He allowed eight runs in four innings and earned the loss.
Cory Aldridge two home runs in the Braves' eight-run fifth inning â the first off Farmer and the second off reliever Lino Urdaneta. Greenville (19-23) had seven hits in the inning.
Belisle (2-5) earned the victory, allowing three hits and walking none while striking out 10 over eight innings. He allowed back-to-back singles to Derek Michaelis and Victor Diaz in the seventh inning in addition to Feliciano's home run.
The game lasted two hours and one minute.
Right-hander Heath Totten (3-4, 4.69 ERA) is scheduled to start against Mobile BayBears lefty Cory Stewart (4-2, 2.86) at 7:05 p.m. Monday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.
SUNS SPOTS: The defeat equals the worst loss for the Suns this season. Jacksonville lost 11-1 at Carolina on April 18.
