Mobile BayBears News Release
Orlando, Fla. â The BayBears were one strike away from winning just their second series of the season, however, the Orlando Rays came from behind to defeat Mobile, 5-4, in 12 innings Sunday afternoon. Orlando's Pete LaForest drove a double down the right field line, off of closer Rusty Tucker, scoring two runs to win the final game of the four-game series.
The BayBears took a 4-3 lead in the top of the 12th as Jake Gautreau hit his fourth homerun of the season. The solo shot was his fourth hit of the game and his fourth RBI as well as Gautreau drove in all of Mobile's runs in the contest.
Trailing 2-0 in the fifth, the BayBears loaded the bases with two outs. Gautreau then hit a bases-clearing double over the centerfielder's head, putting Mobile ahead, 3-2.
The Rays tied the score at 3-3 in the bottom of the seventh. The Southern League's second leading hitter, Matt Diaz doubled home Dan DeMent, but was then stranded at third as the go-ahead run.
Mobile's Jon Knott led off the second inning with a single extending his hitting streak to 12 games. The 12-inning game was the longest of the season for the BayBears.
The BayBears now travel to Jacksonville to take on the Suns in a four-game series. Game one of the series is set for 6:05 on Monday night. LHP Cory Stewart (4-2) will get the start on the mound for Mobile.
