Chattanooga Lookouts News Release
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Lookouts combined solid pitching with timely hitting en route to a bottom-of-the-ninth, walk-off 2-1 win against the Mississippi Braves in Sunday afternoon action at AT&T Field.
Mississippi jumped off to an early lead by plating a run in the first. Matt Young led off the game with a walk and advanced to second on a Brandon Hicks ground out. Jason Heyward followed with a walk, while Young swiped third base during the at-bat. Concepcion Rodriguez then hit a sacrifice fly to left field, which resulted in Andrew Lambo throwing out Heyward at second, but the speedy Young crossed home before the tag out at second to give the M-Braves the run.
Both teams failed to score a run until the sixth inning, when the Lookouts finally tied the game. Trayvon Robinson led off with a single and made his way to second on a subsequent Gaby Martinez walk. After a Vinny Rottino pop out, Lambo loaded the bases by getting hit by a pitch. Lucas May then hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Robinson.
The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the ninth. Lambo began the game-winning rally with a double off of Craig Kimbrel (1-1). Lucas May then walked, and Russ Mitchell grounded out to shortstop Brandon Hicks, advancing both runners up a base. Justin Sellers subsequently flied out to a moderate depth in centerfield, which proved to be the final play of the game, as Lambo sprinted home ahead of Concepcion Rodriguez's throw to give the Lookouts a 2-1 win.
Jesus Rodriguez (5-4) was credited with the win for the Lookouts. He threw two shutout innings in relief of Jesus Castillo, who despite surrendering six walks over seven innings, carried a no-hitter into the sixth frame and only yielded two hits on the afternoon.
The Chattanooga Lookouts and Mississippi Braves will continue their five-game series at 7:15 P.M., tomorrow. Tickets for this game or any other Lookouts home game can be purchased at the Lookouts Box Office at AT&T Field, online at www.lookouts.com, or by calling (423) 267-4849.
