Lookouts best Suns

Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release

Jacksonville, FL– Down four runs with two outs and two strikes in the ninth inning, the Suns rallied to tie, but lost, 7-5, to the Chattanooga Lookouts in 11 innings Thursday in front of 9,534 fans at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

On a 2-2 pitch, Eric Riggs smashed a two-run double to right center, bringing the Suns to within two runs. On the next pitch from Lookouts closer Todd Coffey, Nelson Castro launched a towering home run to left field high above the foul pole – inches fair – to tie the game.

Suns reliever Brian Steffek pitched scoreless ninth and 10th innings. He preceded Franquelis Osoria who pitched for the third consecutive day after earning victories Tuesday and Wednesday. After a walk, sacrifice and an intentional walk to set up a force out, a wild pitch moved up the runners and William Bergolla blooped a two-run single to right field, scoring the pair. It sent Osoria (7-4) to defeat, earning him the decision in the third consecutive Suns game.

The Suns (45-49 overall, 10-15 second half) led 1-0 after the first inning when James Loney's groundout scored Shane Victorino who had singled, stole second and reached third when kicking the ball away on his slide.

The Lookouts (55-40, 17-8) broke up the 13-inning dry spell, scoring three times off Suns starter Ryan Ketchner in the fifth inning. Ketchner pitched six innings, walking one and striking out six. He has garnered enough innings to qualify his 2.44 ERA as the league's best.

Willy Aybar had three his to lead the Suns. Chattanooga's Jeff Bannon had three hits and reached base in 15 of 20 plate appearances in the series.

SUNS SPOTS: OF Derek Michaelis missed his third consecutive game with an abdominal muscle strain. He is day-to-day. ...Osoria's back-to-back wins marked the first time a Suns pitcher accomplished the feat since Ramon Fermin on Aug. 15-16, 1996. ...Castro played right field for the first time since Aug. 30, 2003, while with Vero Beach.

ON DECK: Right-hander Chad Billingsley will make his Suns debut against Mobile BayBears right-hander Chris Rojas (7-4, 3.36 ERA) at 8:05 p.m. Eastern time Friday at Hank Aaron Stadium.
