Lancaster Stormers News Release

Augie Sylk's first five innings were a thing of beauty Labor Day afternoon.

The effort was ruined in the sixth and seventh innings.

Long Island struck for 11 runs between those two frames to defeat the Lancaster Barnstormers, 11-7, in the finale of a four-game weekend series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Sylk had spun five shutout frames on two singles and a walk but never got an out in the sixth. He walked Johnni Turbo to start the inning, and Vladimir Frias followed with a single to center. The pair executed a double steal, and Steve Lombardozzi drew a walk to fill the bases.

Donald Goodson entered from the bullpen, and Lew Ford singled home two runs with a sharp grounder through the left side. Lombardozzi and Ford pulled off another double steal before L.J. Mazzilli rapped a two-run double inside the bag at third to put the Ducks in the lead. Goodson retired the next two before Hector Sanchez smoked a two-run homer to right to cap the six-run frame.

In the seventh, Long Island pieced together five more runs out of six singles, two walks, a passed ball and a balk. It again was Sanchez delivering the biggest blow with a two-run single to center.

Caleb Gindl and LeDarious Clark hit early home runs for the Barnstormers. Lancaster notched a third run in the top of the fifth as Gindl drove home Jake Hoover with a force play grounder.

Lancaster narrowed the gap with four in the top of the ninth. The first scored on a grounder by Anthony Peroni. Jake Hoover doubled in the second run. Cleuluis Rondon tripled into the right field corner and scored on a grounder by Gindl. Blake Allemand extended the inning with a single to right before Alejandro de Aza was retired on a fly ball to center.

The Barnstormers open a three-game series against York on Tuesday at 6:30. Joey Lara makes the start for the Revs against Dominic DiSabatino. Fans may tune into the YouTube broadcast beginning at 6:25.

NOTES: Gindl's homer was his 27th, leaving him one off the league lead and two off the franchise record. He has five in the last nine games...Anderson De La Rosa was forced to leave the game in the fourth inning when the recoil of a Lew Ford swing got him in the side of the head...The Barnstormers are at .500 for the 19th time this season.
