MISSOULA, MONT. - Right-hander Connor Grey was touched up for three homers over 4.2 innings, as Grey was tagged with the loss and dropped to 4-2 on the year after Missoula (16-23) suffered an 8-4 setback at the hands of the Helena Brewers (16-23) to open the second half of Pioneer League play on Friday night.
Grey ultimately allowed a season-high seven runs on a season-high 12 hits with six strikeouts over his 4.2 innings of work. The Osprey are now 6-2 in Grey's starts.
Leadoff man Ryan Aguilar got the homers going right away on Friday night, launching a leadoff homer over the wall in right field to make it 1-0 Brewers. After the O's plated three runs in the home half of the first to take a 3-1 lead, Helena responded with one in the top of the second, running the tally to 3-2 headed into the bottom of the second.
Didimo Bracho contributed a one-out triple in the second before coming around to score on a ground ball from Jacy Cave, but Helena exploded for five runs on five hits, including two homers, to chase Grey and take a 7-4 lead it would not relinquish. Ronnie Gideon contributed a leadoff homer to start that inning before Nathan Rodriguez belted a three-run shot to cap the scoring run.
Helena tacked on one more run in the top of the eighth as Aguilar doubled home Franly Mallen. Aguilar finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs scored, a double, a homer and two RBI.
Brewer starter Matt Smith tossed the first 4.2 innings, but did not qualify for the victory. Wuilder Rodriguez dealt the final 4.1 innings, surrendering just one hit with three strikeouts to earn the victory and improve to 3-1.
Missoula will continue the three-game series with Helena on Saturday at 5:05 p.m.
