Long Ball Does in Spirit!

Lynn, MA-- Les Capitales de Quebec took over first place in the North Division second half standings Friday night as they knocked off the North Shore Spirit 11-7 at the New Fraser Field in Lynn.

Danny Prata (9-3) worked the first 6 2/3 to pick up the win. Prata allowed four earned runs on eight hits while striking out five. Edison Reynoso (1-1) took the loss for the Spirit. Reynoso surrendered seven earned runs over 4 1/3 innings.

North Shore jumped out to an early lead with three in the first. With one out, Nelson Teilon singled to left. He moved to third on a base hit by Rob Fischer. After Travis Oglesby got the Spirit on the board with an RBI groundout, Frank Charles lined a two-run triple into the gap in right center.

The Spirit tacked on another run in the second. Rob Fischer's two-out single scored Marcos Agramonte, giving North Shore the 4-0 advantage.

Quebec narrowed the gap in the third thanks to a three-run homerun by Juan Melo, his 7th of the season. Les Capitales pulled even one inning later on Olivier Lepine RBI single.

In the fifth, Rickie Morton hit a grand-slam off Spirit reliever Jeffrey Dixon, capping a five-run inning for Quebec. Eddie Lantiqua's 2-run homer extended the Les Capitales lead to 11-4. It was his 14th homer of the year.

The home town nine battled back in the seventh thanks to some shaky Quebec defense. Third baseman Shane Hopper made three errors in one inning, allowing North Shore to push across three unearned runs.

Juan Melo finished the game 2-5 with three RBI's and three runs scored for Quebec. Olivier Lepine was 3-4. Frank Charles and Yuri Sanchez had two RBIs apiece for the Spirit.

The Spirit are back in action tonight in game two of the four-game series with Quebec. The gates open at 5:30 and the first pitch is slated for 7:05. The night will be a special night for Lynn's Alice O'Neil. O'Neil will receive the Spirit's Community award for her years of service to the youth of the North Shore. O'Neil is a tireless supporter of youth baseball and Distric 16 Little Leaguers. Lynn's Harry Prunier will also be honored for contribution to youth baseball throughout the year.
