Lone Stars to Hold Player and Cheerleader Tryouts February 26th
LUBBOCK, TX. It's that time of year again when aspiring athletes fasten their chinstraps and lace up their shoes for their love of the game in hopes of one day being the next Kurt Warner. Warner, the most notable player to come out of indoor football into the NFL, and former MVP quarterback and Super Bowl champion of the St. Louis Rams, had previously quarterbacked the Iowa Barnstormers of the AFL.
The Lubbock Lone Stars will hold open tryouts at 10:00 AM on Saturday February 26, 2005 at Jones SBC Stadium for all positions, and are open to all players ages 18 and up. The try-out fee, payable by cash or money order, is $40 if you register in advance, or $50 if you register the day of the event. Players can pre-register by coming by the Lone Stars office at 2402 52nd Street, Ste. 1B and fill out an application up until February 25th. The first 50 players to register will receive a Lone Stars T-shirt.
Players wishing to tryout for the team should report at 9:00 AM for warm-ups. All players should wear workout clothes and either turf shoes or sneakers. "We're excited for the 2005 season," said head coach Mike Buck! "Last year, we had a lot of local players tryout for the team, and we hope to have even more this year."
In addition, the Lone Stars Lariettes, the dance and cheerleading squad of the Lubbock Lone Stars will hold their tryouts for the 2005 squad on the same day at SBC Jones Stadium at 11:00 AM. There will be a $25 pre-registration fee and $30 the day of the event. Each participant must bring a picture of themselves, and should come prepared to perform their own choreography to their own music.
The Lone Stars will kickoff their second season on the road in Corpus Christi on March 21st, and play two more road games before the home opener against the Beaumont Drillers on April 9th. Season tickets and corporate packages are on sale now.
