Eastern Ontario Weekend

The London Knights hit the road to face three Eastern conference teams in three consecutive nights this weekend. On Friday January 15th the Knights travelled to the K-Rock Centre to play the Kingston Frontenacs for the second time this season. On Saturday, the Knights headed to Yardman Arena to take on the Belleville Bulls, and then travelled to Ottawa to play the first place team in the East division in an early afternoon game. The Knights won two games this weekend, but were defeated by the 67's in a shootout. This weekend increased the Knights record to 31-11-0-2.

London vs. Kingston

The London Knights defeated the Kingston Frontenacs 3-2 on Friday January 15th 2009 at the K-Rock Centre. This is the first time the Knights have won on Kingston territory since 2007.

Kingston opened the scoring less than a minute into the game. Kaine Geldart scored his 6th goal of the season at 0:45. Zach Harnden and Nathan Moon added the assists. London tied the game late in the period with a goal from Jared Knight, his 23rd of the season at 18:11. Stephen Sanza and Leigh Salters assisted. The Knights controlled the second period with the lone goal scored by Michael MacDonald, assisted by Tyler Brown and Colin Martin at 11:48. The Knights held a 2-1 lead heading into the third period. After hitting the post on his first attempt, London forward Stephen Sanza put the puck past Tyler Beskorowany at 7:14 of the third period. The power play goal was assisted by Michael D'Orazio. Kingston forward Mitch Lebar cut the Knights lead late in the third period as he scored his 9th of the season, unassisted at 16:36. The Knights held the Frontenacs for the rest of the period defeating them for the first time in Kingston since 2007.

The Knights were outshot 35-31 and went 1-for-6 on the power play while the Frontenacs went 0-for-6. Both London goaltender Michael Hutchinson and Kingston goalie, Typer Beskorowany earned 2nd and 3rd star of the game.

Knights vs. Bulls

The London Knights defeated the Belleville Bulls on Saturday for the second time this season with a score of 4-2. London's rookie goaltender Michael Houser turned away 21 shots to secure a Knights win and increase his record to 10-3-0.

London opened the scoring at 16:57 of the first period with a goal from Jared Knight, assisted by Nazem Kadri and Justin Taylor. The Knights took an early 2-0 lead in the second period with a goal from Leigh Salters, assisted by Michael MacDonald. Alex Aleardi, put one past Michael Houser at the half-way mark of the second period to put the Bulls on the board. Bjorn Krupp and Alex Basso added the assists. The Knights replied quickly with Jared Knight's second of the game and 25th of the season at 11:39. Steven Tarasuk and Nazem Kadri assisted. A majority of the third period remained scoreless until newly acquired forward, Chris DeSousa scored his first goal as a London Knight. His empty net goal came unassisted at 19:13. The Bulls replied with one more goal, scoring on Michael Houser with two seconds left in the period. This as Scott Howe's second of the season from Austen Brassard and Andy Bathgate.

Shots on goal favoured the Knights 33-23. The Knights went 0-for-1 on the power play and the Bulls went 0-for-3.

London Vs. Ottawa

The Knights travelled to Ottawa to play their third road game in three days. The afternoon game turned out to be a battle of the goalies as the game was sent to a shootout. The 67s came out on top at the Urbandale Centre, defeating the Knights for only the second time in five seasons.

After a scoreless first period, the 67s capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play. Julien Demers scored his second goal of the season, three minutes into the second period. Travis Gibbons and Ryan Martindale added the assists. London came back taking a second period lead with goals from Nazem Kadri, assisted by Colin Martin and Dane Fox, followed by Michael MacDonald's 9th goal of the season assisted by Garett Hunter and Leigh Salters. The Knights headed into the third with a 2-1 lead. Ottawa forward Anthony Nigro took advantage of the power play and tied the game 5 minutes into the third period. His goal was assisted by Cody Lindsay and Travis Gibbons. The game was forced into overtime, and despite outshooting the 67s 6-1, the Knights were unable to score. In the shootout, Nazem Kadri, Michael D'Orazio and Jared Knight could not put the puck past Ottawa goalie Petr Mrazek. Cody Lindsay scored the lone goal in the shootout, beating Michael Hutchinson to give Ottawa the win.

London netminder Michael Hutchinson faced 42 shots and Ottawa goaltender Petr Mrazek faced 34 in their victory and earned 1st and 2nd stars of the game. The Knights went 0-for-4 on the power play and the 67s went 2-for-6.
