Lonborg and Petrocelli headline Rox hot stove banquet

The Brockton Rox are proud to announce the team's fourth annual Hot Stove Banquet, presented by Webster Bank N.A. The event will be headlined by former Boston Red Sox Jim Lonborg and Rico Petrocelli - both members of the 1967 Impossible Dream Sox. The event will take place on February 3 at the Shaw's Center.

Lonborg spent seven of his 15 major league seasons in a Boston uniform. The former All-Star right-hander was the ace of the 1967 Red Sox staff - arguably the most beloved team the franchise's modern era. Red Sox faithful fondly remember his gutsy performance in the 1967 World Series, following his Cy Young Award-winning 22-9 season. Lonborg ensured the pennant that season by beating the Twins and Dean Chance on the last day of the season. Four days later, he beat the heavily-favored St. Louis Cardinals with a one-hitter to knot the World Series at one win apiece. Lonborg finished his career with 157 wins and now runs his own successful dentistry practice.

For a decade, Petrocelli was a home-run threat with the Red Sox infield. He was with Boston for their 1967 and 1975 pennants and was twice named an American League All-Star. In Game Six of the 1967 World Series , Petrocelli, Carl Yastrzemski, and Reggie Smith set a World Series record by hitting three home runs in an inning. It was Petrocelli's second shot to clear Fenway's Green Monster that game. His rare combination of power and infield glove work was displayed best in 1969, when he set an American League record for most home runs by a shortstop, with 40, and tied a then-record for fewest errors by a shortstop, with 14.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the VIP cocktail reception followed by dinner. The program will begin around 7 p.m. and feature an open question and answer session with the speakers. Individual tickets for the event are $55 and private tables of eight and ten are available. There will also be a live auction and raffle, with proceeds going to the Foundation for Fighting Blindness.
