Greenville Triumph SC News Release
Omaha, NE - The Greenville Triumph Soccer Club brushed aside vocal fans, a narrow field and a barrage of shots from Union Omaha to defeat the league-leaders 1-0 at Omaha's Werner Park on Saturday night. The win extended the Triumph's unbeaten streak to six matches as they continue to streak towards a potential playoff berth.
Omaha's narrow field led to immediate action, with Greenville dictating play and earning three corners in the opening minutes of the match. Greenville's pressing paid off in the 12th minute, when a Jesus Ibarra cross from the right side found Andrew Booth's head and an Omaha defender's back before falling at the feet of striker Marios Lomis. Lomis calmly flicked a shot past Omaha's Rashid Nuhu to collect his first goal in over two months and put the Triumph on top. Lomis, now with 13 goals, has scored in both of this season's matches against Omaha.
The second half saw an Omaha side hungry to even the score. the double-substitution of Omaha's scoring leaders Greg Hurst and Evan Conway challenged the Triumph defense, as Omaha controlled possession and began firing shot after shot. Greenville subbed off Marios Lomis in favor of an additional defender, Jacob Goodall, as they tried to preserve their slim lead. Though Omaha continued shooting, they were only able to get two on target against a Greenville defense that's been rounding in to form across the last two months. Five minutes of stoppage time proved unfruitful for the league-leaders, as Greenville held on to collect a statement win.
With the victory, Greenville remains in to third place in the standings, now only six points out of first and five points out of a potential playoff bye. They continue their run to the playoffs when they return home on Saturday, October 16th against New England Revolution II at 7:00 PM. Tickets can be purchased here.
