Union Omaha News Release
PAPILLION, Neb. - An early goal by Marios Lomis lifted Greenville Triumph SC to a 1-0 victory against Union Omaha on Saturday night at Werner Park as the visitors moved into third place in the League One standings and denied los Buhos in their first chance to clinch a postseason spot on home turf.
Triumph SC took the lead in the 12th minute as after an initial cross from the right was half-cleared, the visitors recycled possession to Jesus Ibarra, whose near-post cross was headed on target by Andrew Booth but blocked, only for the ball to carom directly to Lomis for a volleyed finish to the left corner of the net and his 13th goal of the season.
That proved the only shot on target for either side in the opening half, but the hosts twice went close inside the opening 10 minutes through Evan Conway, who first made a driving run past a pair of defenders into the left side of the penalty area but flew his shot over the crossbar. A minute later a good passing moved set Conway up for a turning shot at the top-left edge of the penalty area but it flew wide of the right post.
Conway threatened again with 10 minutes remaining as a corner from the right by Damia Viader came to him in the penalty area, but the midfielder was unable to get a clean shot away and Greenville's Paul Christensen smothered the ball in his six-yard area. There would be no late equalizer for the hosts, however, as Greenville's undefeated streak reached six games.
Both teams are back in action at home next Saturday, with Omaha hosting North Carolina FC and Greenville welcoming the New England Revolution II to Legacy Early College.
