Logue, Monica and Freedman Lead Mohawks Over Glens Falls

Glens Falls, N.Y.-The Amsterdam Mohawks (24-6) pounded out 13 hits, and scored three runs in each of the first two innings in handling the Glens Falls Dragons (15-15) 12-1. With the victory the Mohawks extended their latest winning streak to seven games.
Amsterdam jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first. Drew Freedman led off the inning with a single off of Glens Falls starter Jake Murray (Rhode Island College). After Riley Mahan (Kentucky) walked, Brendan Tracy (Fairfield) singled to drive in Freedman. Craig Dedelow (Indiana) and Handsome Monica (Arizona) also picked up RBIs as the Mohawks took the 3-0 lead.
The Mohawks tacked on three more runs in the second. Freedman once again led off the inning with a single, and scored his second run of the night after back to back singles from Mahan and Hunter Tackett (Auburn), with Tackett getting the RBI. Scott Manea (North Carolina State) then delivered an RBI double to the left field wall, driving in Tackett to make it 5-0. Manea later scored on a wild pitch to give Amsterdam the six run lead.
Meanwhile, Amsterdam starter Zach Logue (Kentucky) was cruising along, retiring the first six batters that he faced. The Dragons made some noise in the bottom of the third, getting back to back singles from Mark Powell (Bucknell) and Colby Stratten (Indiana) to lead off the frame. Logue was able to get out of the jam with the help of his defense who doubled off a Glens Falls runner at second to end the threat.
Glens Falls finally got to Logue in the bottom of the fifth with a two out rally. Stratten smacked a double off of the wall in right-center field, and came around to score on an RBI single by Miguel Presno (Flagler College) to make it 6-1. Danny Oliveri followed with a single, and an error by the Mohawks put runners on second and third. Logue however came up with a big strikeout to end the inning. Logue came back strong in the sixth as he struck out the Dragon's side in order.
Amsterdam increased their lead in the seventh. Manea and Dedelow drew walks against Glens Falls reliever Mike McFerran (Lynn University). Monica then nailed an RBI double down the left field line to make it 8-1 Amsterdam. Kyle Dean (Rancho Bernardo HS) then doubled to center to increase the Mohawk's lead to 9-1, and Amsterdam picked up another run on a wild pitch.
The Mohawks rounded out the scoring with a pair of runs in the ninth on a sacrifice fly and wild pitch.
Monica went for 3 for 4 with three RBIs for Amsterdam, while Freedman was also 3 for 4.
Stratten was 2 for 3 with a double for the Dragons.
Logue (6-0) went six innings to earn the win for the Mohawks. He scattered five hits, while giving up just one run, and striking out 10. He did not walk a batter.
Glens Falls returns home on Saturday for a doubleheader against the Victor Rail Riders. Game one gets underway at 5:05 p.m.
