La Crosse Loggers News Release

LA CROSSE, WI - With less than four months until Opening Day, the La Crosse Loggers Baseball Club continued to build its 2012 roster by announcing the signing of a pair of players from Loyola Marymount University today in freshman infielder Kyle Raubinger and freshman two-way man Colin Welmon.

Raubinger is yet another Logger signee who turned down an offer from professional baseball last June when he said no to the Baltimore Orioles after they drafted him the 28th Round of the 2011 MLB Draft. The 6-3, 210 pound left-handed hitting infielder was the All-County Player of the Year coming out of Arroyo Grande High School in Arroyo Grande, Calif. and was also a member of the Milwaukee Brewers at the 2010 Area Code Games.

Welmon joins Raubinger at LMU as part of a recruiting class that was ranked as the 23rd best incoming class in the nation by Baseball America. Another two-way threat for the Loggers, Welmon has the ability to pitch and play the outfield. The Tustin, Calif. native was an All-County and All-State selection in high school and was also a member of the Angels Elite Scout Team.

Raubinger, Welmon and the rest of the Loggers open their 2012 campaign on the road on May 30 when they travel to Wisconsin Rapids to take on the Rafters. The Loggers will kick off their 10th season of play at home on Saturday, June 2 when they play host to the Madison Mallards at 6:05 p.m. at The Lumber Yard. Season ticket and group outing information is available online at www.lacrosseloggers.com.

In the Radio Booth ...

The Loggers also announced today that radio play-by-play man John Pappadapolous (Pop-a-dop-o-lus) will indeed return for his tenth season at the microphone, broadcasting all 70 games in 2012 over the Logger Radio Network airways. Pappadapolous, the longest tenured play-by-play man in the Northwoods League, has called every game but two since the Loggers inception in 2003 which is a total number of games that now exceeds 600.

Joining Pappadapolous in the booth will be Holmen, Wisc. native Nick Rytilahti (Rit-a-Lahti). Rytilahti is currently finishing a degree in sports management and sports broadcasting at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and has previously teamed up with Pappadapolous to broadcast local high school football games.

Other Incoming Loggers Crack Top 50 Freshmen List ...

Two incoming Logger freshmen received recognition by Baseball America recently when they were tabbed in the publication's Top 50 Freshmen Draft Prospects for 2012. Richard Prigatano (Long Beach State) was recognized as the 14th best freshman in the country and infielder Kevin Kramer (UCLA) also made the list at #45.
