
Loggerheads Win on Home Ice

LAKELAND, Fla. â In a see-saw game, the Lakeland Loggerheads completed a comeback in dramatic fashion and notched their second win on home ice against their I-4 rival, the Orlando Seals at the Lakeland Center in front of more than 1,300 enthusiastic fans.
Dru Burgess netted his second goal of the night for the game winner with little more than a minute and a half left in the game.
The Orlando Seals started the scoring on the power play when B.J. Stephens snuck the puck past Loggerheads' netminder Tyler Murray thirteen minutes into the first period.
The Loggerheads responded by scoring less then a minute later when captain Rob Schweyer beat goaltender David Goverde at even strength on a nifty set-up from Chris Cerrella and Chad Peck.
Lakeland then took the lead when Burgess scored his first goal of the night three and a half minutes into the second period. Orlando answered by scoring two goals in less than five minutes to take the lead going into the dressing room for the second intermission.
Five minutes into the third period, Jeff Glowa scored an even-strength goal from Garrett Dionne to tie the game. For the remainder of the period, both teams flurried hoping to score the game winner until Burgess lit the lamp.
The Lakeland Loggerheads next home game with be on Sunday, December 14th when they host the Jacksonville Barracudas on the back end of a home and home series. The Loggerheads will also face the Alabama Slammers, Miami Manatees, and the Macon Trax in the WHA2's inaugural season. All games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
