Columbus Catfish News Release

Columbus, GA - One hit made all the difference Friday as the Catfish (33-28) topped the Rome Braves (39-22) when LF Drew Locke slammed a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Columbus stayed in the game thanks to the strong starting effort of LHP Marlon Arias, who lasted eight innings and allowed just one run. He gave up seven hits and no walks.

With two outs in the top of the first inning DH Maximiliano Ramirez singled before 1B Isaiah Ka'aihue slammed a double that scored Ramirez. It appeared the 1-0 Rome lead might stand up as the starting pitchers settled into a duel.

The Catfish had only two singles by SS Ivan DeJesus until the ninth inning. 1B Jason Mooneyham led off the ninth with a walk. He was followed by Locke, who was unable to get down two sacrifice bunt attempts. Down 0-2 in the count Locke stroked his sixth bomb to send his teammates and Catfish fans into celebration.

RHP John Meloan (1-0) struck out the side in order in the top of the ninth inning and earn the win. RHP Rudy Quinonez (0-1) took the loss after allowing the homer. He finished with two innings and allowed two hits and a walk.

Game two of the series will begin Saturday at 7:00pm. LHP David Pfeiffer (1-0, 3.12) will face LHP Carlos Rivas (0-0, 1.50). For tickets or more information call (706) 571-8866 or visit www.ColumbusCatfish.com.
