Richmond Flying Squirrels News Release

RICHMOND, VA - The Richmond Flying Squirrels will employ the talents of local aspiring artists as they refurbish The Diamond for the upcoming 2010 season. The team has announced an official art contest that will give elementary school students in the greater Richmond area the opportunity to have their artwork displayed permanently on the concourse at The Diamond during the 2010 season. The contest calls for students to create artwork based on the theme: Baseball is Funn Because...? 15 lucky students from the area will have their artwork permanently displayed on 15 separate 4' x 9' panels on the main concourse of The Diamond during the 2010 season.

"We have continued to stress the importance of this great community, as well as the influence of our younger fans on everything we do," said Flying Squirrels' Vice President & COO Todd "Parney" Parnell. "This contest is a great way to energize young baseball fans, while also giving them a creative way to help decorate the ballpark. We just hope their teachers will forgive us for misspelling fun!"

The contest is open to all elementary school students in the greater Richmond area, and will run from Monday, January 4th through Friday, January 29th. Each participating school will be asked to choose one entry and submit that entry for consideration from the Flying Squirrels. A press conference and party will be held in March to recognize the 15 winning students and their artwork. Winning students will receive two complimentary tickets to the Flying Squirrels' 2010 home opener where they will be recognized on the field before the game and have their artwork unveiled at The Diamond for the first time.
