Middleton, WI - The Madison Capitols got contributions from a pair of local products, but could not overcome a lethal Bloomington Thunder offense, falling 8-2 on Sunday at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena to round out the Bob Suter Memorial Tournament.

The Capitols fell behind in the first period for the first time in the preseason, as the Thunder raced out to a 2-0 advantage on tallies from Ethan Somoza on a power play at 10:55 and Logan Lambdin at 17:29. Lambdin would be far from finished for the Thunder, which went 3-for-3 with the power play on the day.

Madison chopped the Thunder lead in half in the period's dying minutes, picking up a power play goal of its own. Sauk City native Luke McElhenie parked himself in front of Thunder netminder Logan Halladay and beautifully tipped home a Ryan Lohin wrist shot to make it 2-1 with 1:25 remaining.

The second period began with Bloomington re-exerting its offense, as Somoza picked up his second power play goal of the day at 1:28 of the period before Sean Harrison tallied another man-up goal at the 10:06 mark.

Shortly after Harrison's goal, Garrett Klee dropped the gloves with Bloomington's Steven Merl to try to swing the momentum, and it worked briefly, as Verona native Charlie Parker was able to jam a loose puck home off a Robby Fosdick point offering.

With the score 4-2, Madison thought they had gotten the deficit down to a single goal shortly after Parker's goal, as Mick Messner appeared to swing an aerial puck into the yawning goal. However, the referees nullified the tally to keep it a 4-2 game.

Madison would never recover, as Bloomington exploded for two goals to close out the middle frame from Alec Mehr and Lambdin to go into the locker room with a 6-2 advantage.

Lambdin provided an exclamation point for the Thunder, scoring his third and fourth goals of the game in the final stanza to round out the Thunder victory.
