Traverse City Pit Spitters News Release

Traverse City, MI - Derek Clark tossed another gem on Wednesday, as the Traverse City Pit Spitters took game one of the series 5-2 over the Kenosha Kingfish.

Clark at just 5'8" is the smallest player on the roster, but he arguably has been the ace of this pitching staff. Clark put in his fourth straight appearance of 6+ innings and at least six strikeouts. He went seven innings, allowing just three hits and one run with a season-high nine strikeouts.

The offense got off to a slow start, with one run in the third off a Jakob Marsee RBI single. No more runs would come until the seventh. Christian Beal tripled to right center to give the Pit Spitters the lead for the first time. Marsee followed that with an RBI ground-rule double. A bases loaded walk made it 5-1, as they put up four runs in the inning.

Adam Christopher finished the last two innings of relief, and the Pit Spitters took the win and gave their bullpen a rest in the process. Seven relievers made an appearance in the Battle Creek series, but Clark gave them the night off with another great night.

Seven of nine starters recorded a hit, and eight of nine reached base safely. Marsee led the way offensively in a 2-3 night, walking twice and knocking in two runs. Camden Traficante went 2-4 with a walk. Jake Smallwood was 1-3 with a single and hit by pitch.
