Frisco RoughRiders News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS-Jose Felix helped Frisco (20-23, 61-52) even the score after the RoughRiders fell behind early, but San Antonio (23-20, 51-62) was able to hold on in 10 innings, winning 5-4 Sunday Night at Wolff Municipal Stadium. With the bases loaded, Rymer Liriano singled home the winning run off 'Riders reliever Richard Bleier (0-2).
Off a tough loss Saturday night, San Antonio scored early against Nick Tepesch. Dean Anna gave the Missions their first baserunner with a one out walk, and moved to third after Jonathan Galvez singled and Nate Freiman reached on a free pass. With the bases loaded, Cody Decker singled to right, giving the Missions a 2-0 edge.
In the second the home club added its third run off Tepesch. Jeremy Rodriguez and Kyung-Min Na both recorded base hits, while Anna brought home Rodriguez on a fielder's choice. The Missions would also add an individual run in the fifth, on a wild pitch by Miguel De Los Santos that scored Nate Freiman from third.
Down by four runs, Frisco came roaring back in the sixth. Following back-to-back singles by Engel Beltre and Jared Hoying, Chris McGuiness knocked a double past the dive of centerfielder Reymond Fuentes. Both runners came home on the play, while McGuiness later scored on a base hit by Tommy Mendonca.
Still trailing by a run, Frisco tied the game in the top of the ninth off Missions closer Jeremy McBryde. A perfect 13-for-13 in save chances coming into the game, McBryde allowed an RBI single to Jose Felix to tie the game at four. Richard Bleier allowed a triple by Reymond Fuentes in the bottom of the ninth, but got a groundball from Dean Anna to strand the winning run on base.
Dustin Pease (2-2) held the 'Riders off the board in the top of the 10th, before San Antonio won the game in the home half. Following a base hit by Galvez, Freiman stroked a double down the left field line. At first San Antonio thought the game was over, as Galvez crossed home, but the umpires ruled the ball bounced out of play. Steve Buechele elected to intentionally walk Cody Decker to set up a force at any base, but Rymer Liriano singled to end the game.
Dustin Pease earned the win in relief, pitching a scoreless 10th inning. Richard Bleier suffered the loss, allowing one run (game winner) on five hits.
Frisco and San Antonio play the final game of their series on Monday night. Neil Ramirez (1-2, 3.62) makes his seventh start with the RoughRiders this season, and will be opposed by fellow right-hander Eddie Kunz (2-4, 6.75). Kunz was roughed up in his last start against Frisco, giving up eight runs over four innings. First pitch is slated for 7:05 from Wolff Municipal Stadium, and can be heard on KKGM 1630 AM or on ridersbaseball.com. Pre-game coverage gets underway at 6:30.
The RoughRiders return to Dr Pepper Ballpark on August 8, when the team begins a six-game homestand against the Tulsa Drillers and Northwest Arkansas Naturals. For ticket information, please call (972) 731-9200 or visit ridersbaseball.com.
