Dayton Gems News Release

DAYTON, OH - Heading into Thursday's game against Quad City, Dayton's Chris Lipsett hadn't played in a game in over two months.

When he scored the game winning goal on a breakaway-like shot in the third period, Lipsett looked as smooth as anyone on the ice.

With the game tied midway through the third period, Matthew Larke stole the puck for the Gems and passed it up the ice to Lipsett. When Lipsett went one-on-one with the Mallards' goaltender, Lipsett scored his first goal since Dec. 4 to give Dayton the 2-1 win.

Dayton goaltender Derek MacIntyre also had a night to remember.

Just two days after fellow goalie Jeff Jakaitis was promoted to the AHL's Worcester Sharks, MacIntyre recorded 45 saves for the Gems and earned his first win since New Year's Eve.

The 45 saves were the most of the season for the 25-year-old.

The Gems were on the board first when Tysen Dowzak scored his second goal of the season to give Dayton a 1-0 lead. Brett Lutes and Mike Vaskivuo each assisted Dowzak on the play.

Dayton kept the Mallards scoreless in the first period, but Quad City's Joel Gasper netted his seventh goal of the season in the second period to tie the game at 1-1.

Lipsett then recorded his game winner in the final period.

The Gems will play on the road Friday night at Fort Wayne. The game will start at 8 p.m.

The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
