Dayton Gems: Weekend Preview
February 17, 2011 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Dayton Gems News Release
DAYTON, OH - The Dayton Gems will be playing three games over the next four days. The stretch of games starts with a home matchup against Quad City on Thursday, Feb. 17. Dayton will then be on the road as they play at Fort Wayne on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon.
Quad City
The Gems and Mallards just played each other this past Sunday, but things did not go well for the Gems. After taking a 2-1 lead in the second period, Dayton allowed Quad City to score four goals in the final period and handed Dayton a 5-3 loss.
Dayton is not the only team the Mallards have made a comeback against. Quad City has won three of its last four games - all the wins were won in comeback fashion. In wins against Fort Wayne and Colorado last week, the Mallards found themselves down early on, only to capture the win by completing a comeback.
The Mallards have had five players (Blaznek, Shelast, Preece, Aduba, and Jake Riddle) score multiple goals in the team's three wins. Riddle is the player who gave the Gems problems on Sunday. Riddle recorded two of the Mallards' four goals in the third period the last time these two teams met.
Fort Wayne
If there is a team in the Turner Conference the Gems don't want to face right now, it's the Komets. Not only have the Gems lost their last four games against the Komets, Fort Wayne has also been on a hot streak against everyone lately.
Fort Wayne has won eight of its last ten games. During that span, the Komets have held their opponent to two goals or less on five different occasions. Fort Wayne has also recorded two shutouts in the past week, including one against the Gems (2-0, Saturday, Feb. 12).
The one bright spot for Dayton is that Fort Wayne has dropped two games since Feb. 11. The Komets' last loss came on Feb. 16 when Bloomington defeated Fort Wayne 3-1.
Watch Party at Boston's Bistro
The Dayton Gems will be having a watch party at Boston's Bistro on North Main Street on Friday, Feb. 18. Fans can go to Boston's Bistro to watch the game with fellow fans while the Gems are on the road and take on Fort Wayne at 8 p.m.
The Kettering Medical Center is proud to be the official title sponsor of the Gems for the 2010-11 season.
