Quad City Mallards News Release

DAYTON, OHIO (February 17, 2011)- Derek MacIntyre made 45 saves- including 23 in the third period alone- and Chris Lipsett scored the winning goal as the host Dayton Gems defeated the Quad City Mallards 2-1 Thursday night.

Lipsett's breakaway goal snapped a 1-1 tie at 12:23 of the third period and MacIntyre was spectacular in stonewalling the Mallards the rest of the way- even after Quad City went up 6-on-4 in the final minute as the Mallards pulled goaltender David Brown and went on a late power play.

The Gems first grabbed the lead with just eight tenths of a second left in the first period when Tyson Dowzak broke a scoreless deadlock by burying Mike Vaskivuo's centering pass.

The Mallards' Joel Gasper swept home a drop pass from Brandon Marino from close range to tie the game at one at 17:12 of the second period, but despite peppering the Dayton net in the third, Quad City would not solve McIntyre again.

The Mallards take to the ice at home tomorrow evening against the Bloomington PrairieThunder and Saturday night against the Fort Wayne Komets. Both of those games will face off at 7:05 p.m. This weekend is Alumni Weekend presented by WQAD News 8, 97X and The Dispatch and Rock Island Argus- former Mallards will be welcomed back to the i wireless Center on both Friday and Saturday nights.
