B.C. Lions News Release

(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club is saddened to learn of the passing of Greg Mohns.

Mohns joined the Leos on September 1, 1998 on an interim basis, becoming the club's 21st head coach after general manager Adam Rita stepped down. After taking over a 3-6 club, Mohns guided the Lions to the playoffs on the heels of a six-game season-ending winning streak.

The 1999 season was Mohns' best in the CFL as the Lions posted a then club record-tying 13 wins and their first top ranking in the West Division since 1987. The 1999 Leos went 7-2 on the road under Mohns but were narrowly defeated by a 26-24 loss to Wally Buono's Calgary Stampeders in the Western Final.

Mohns began the 2000 season as head coach for the club before being replaced by Steve Buratto on August 19, 2000, finishing with a 22-12 record over 34 games as head coach.

Mohns was involved in football coaching and administration from 1972 to 1996 before joining the Lions in 1998. After beginning his career at Oklahoma State as an assistant in 1972, Mohns went on to spend time with a number of NCAA programs and the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs along with several other CFL teams.

The next BC Lions home game is Sunday, August 19th versus the Saskatchewan Roughriders at 4:00 pm presented by Tim Hortons. Single game tickets for all BC Lions regular season games are now available by calling 1.855.GO.LIONS.
