(Vancouver) The BC Lions Football Club announced Thursday morning that offensive guard Patrick Kabongo has signed a contract extension with the team.

Kabongo was originally signed by the Lions just days into training camp last year and went on to appear in 15 regular season games including five as a starter in the final weeks of the 2012 campaign.

"Patrick joined us last year at a very crucial time when injuries could have really derailed us," said Lions head coach Mike Benevides. "He was a big part of our success on offence and his experience is something we value a great deal."

The veteran offensive guard who makes his offseason home in Edmonton where he played eight years, enters his 10th CFL season in 2013 and has played in 136 games along with six playoff tilts.
