Calgary Stampeders News Release

The Calgary Stampeder Football Club is pleased to announce that the team's PinkPower program is back for a sixth season.

The Stampeders are extremely proud to partner with the Canadian Cancer Society to help raise awareness and money for the battle against women's cancers. The highlight of the relationship is the annual PinkPower game, which features the sale of the limited-edition Pink merchandise as well as the use of pink accessories such as gloves, wrist bands and chin straps by the players.

The 2013 PinkPower game will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 when the Saskatchewan Roughriders provide the opposition at McMahon Stadium.

Last year's PinkPower program raised more than $54,000 for the cause, pushing the initiative's five-year fundraising total to more than $200,000.

"Our fans have always demonstrated great generosity and the success of the PinkPower program is a testament of their dedication to this worthy cause," said Stampeders long snapper Randy Chevrier, the team spokesman for the Canadian Cancer Society. "Unfortunately, a lot of families have been affected by women's cancers and it's obvious from the tremendous support of PinkPower that this is a personal and crucial battle for so many people."

The PinkPower program was started in 2008 by Peni Hufnagel, wife of Stamps general manager/head coach John Hufnagel.

"This is a terrific partnership and, on behalf of the Canadian Cancer Society, I thank the entire Stampeders family - fans, players and staff - for their support," said Tiffany Kraus, marketing and communications manager for the Alberta/Northwest Territories branch of the Society. "The money raised by the PinkPower program is greatly appreciated but even more important is the attention brought to the importance of early detection, something which gives all the women we love - mothers, wives, sisters, daughters and friends - a better chance of beating this disease."

Stampeders season tickets are on sale now for the 2013 season. For more information, visit Stampeders.com or call 403-289-0258 to speak with a customer service representative.
