
Lincoln Defeats Sioux City

Sioux City.....Lincoln scored three runs in the first inning and went on to defeat the Explorers 7-4 Tuesday at Lewis and Clark Park.
Phil Hawke gave the Saltdogs a 3-0 lead in the first on a three-run home run over the center field fence. Explorers losing hurler Nick Singleton walked Josh Burrus to lead off the game, followed by a single by Shea McFeely and then the home run by Hawke.
After Lincoln extended the lead with an unearned run in the fifth, Sioux City made a comeback with two runs in the sixth inning on a RBI triple by Nick McCoola and a single by Alex Llanos who drove in the other run to cut the Lincoln lead to 4-2.
However, Lincoln added a single run in the seventh and two more runs in the eighth to give the Saltdogs a 7-2 lead. The Explorers added the final two runs in the bottom of the eighth on a two-run single by Llanos, who finished the game with three hits and three RBI's.
The Explorers posed a mild threat in the bottom of the ninth inning with a lead off walk to Jason Colson and a one-out single by Greg Stevens, but Lincoln reliever Chris Thompson got Derek Schmerhorn to hit into a game ending double play, the third double play turned by Lincoln in the contest.
The loss drops the Explorers into second place in the American Association North, one-half game behind first place St. Paul.
The second game of the three-game series with Lincoln will be Wednesday at 7:05 at Lewis and Clark Park.
