
Limpright Named MVP Finalist; Weselowski up for Most Outstanding Defenseman

(Rapid City, SD) - The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today the five finalists for each of the major year-end awards. Rapid City Rush forward Shawn Limpright has been named a 2011-12 CHL Most Valuable Player (MVP) candidate while Riley Weselowski is a finalist for Most Outstanding Defenseman (MOD). Along with MVP and MOD, the league announced finalists for Most Outstanding Goaltender (Scott Brower Award), and Rookie of the Year. After a nomination period by CHL teams, the league front office determined the finalists for each award. Balloting will take place among CHL Head Coaches, team Communications Departments and select media members in CHL markets to determine the winners.
Limpright, 30, currently ranks third in the league with 70 points (23G, 47A) through 55 games. In his 10th professional season, the St. Adolphe, Manitoba native has set career highs in assists and points and has paced the Rush since early February. Of the top seven scorers in the league, Limpright leads all with a plus-19 rating.
Limpright is up for the award along with Allen forward Bruce Graham, Quad City forward Brandon Marino, Wichita forward Matt Robinson and Evansville forward Todd Robinson .
In his fourth season, Weselowski has set career highs in every major offensive statistical category. With 10 games remaining on the schedule, the Pilot Mound, Manitoba native has already set career highs in goals (8), assists (30), and points (38). Weselowski, 27, leads the Rush d-corps and is currently 4th in the league in scoring by defenseman and is also 5th with a plus-19 rating.
Other nominees for Most Outstanding Defenseman are Fort Wayne's Frankie DeAngelis, Evansville's Matt Gens, Quad City's Darren McMillan, and Missouri's Dave Pszenyzny .
The finalists for the Most Outstanding Goaltender Award (Scott Brower Award) include Fort Wayne's Nick Boucher, Missouri's Charlie Effinger, Evansville's Bryan Gillis, Texas' Mark Guggenberger and Wichita's Adam Russo .
Rookie of the Year honors will be determined amongst Quad City forward Jared Brown, Missouri forward Andrew Courtney, Evansville goalie Bryan Gillis, Texas goalie Mark Guggenberger and Tulsa forward Mike Ullrich .
Additional awards to be determined include Coach of the Year, Equipment Manager of the Year and Athletic Trainer of the Year, as determined by their CHL peers, along with six member All-CHL and All-Rookie teams (voted on by CHL Head Coaches). The CHL's regular season point leader will receive the Joe Burton Scoring Champion award and based on supporting materials submitted from CHL member teams the CHL front office will announce the Rick Kozuback Award winner (perseverance, determination and commitment to hockey) and the five finalists and winner for the CHL Man of the Year Award (for outstanding leadership and contributions to the community).
