Bees Get Three in Third, Beat Bucks 3-1

HIDALGO, Texas- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees (26-26-7) improved their position in the Berry Conference with a win against the Laredo Bucks (23-32-2) on Wednesday night. The third period was the only period the Bees scored as it saw three Bees goals from Zac Pearson, Aaron Lee and Tomas Klempa. The Bees have now won five games in a row against the Bucks.

The first period was quiet until the Bucks scored the first goal of the night within the last remaining minutes of the period. Kyle Mariani had the goal at 18:54 into the period.

The Bees were scoreless in the first period and went into the locker room trailing by one.

Laredo continued to hold on to their one point advantage as neither team found the back of the net in the second period.

The third period erupted as the Bees saw a total of three goals.

The Bees tied the game in the third period at 1-1 with a shorthanded goal at 2:56 into the period. Zac Pearson took the feed from Reid Edmondson and fired one past Bucks goaltender, Torrie Jung, from the slot.

Only minutes afterward, at 5:40 into the period, Aaron Lee found the back of the net from the bottom of the right circle while on the power play. The goal was Lee's 29th of the season. Craig Lineker and Georgi Petrov earned the assists.

With 38.3 seconds left in the game, Tomas Klempa secured the win for the Bees with goal while on the power play. Zac Pearson earned the assist. Laredo goalie Torrie Jung made a diving attempt after trying to leave the ice for the extra attacker.

The Killer Bees will be hosting the Arizona Sundogs this weekend, March 9th and 10th, at the State Farm Arena at 7:30pm. Tickets are available by calling 843-7825 or by visiting killerbeehockey.com.
