Laredo Bucks News Release
LAREDO, TX: The Laredo Bucks, of the Central Hockey League, were defeated by the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 3-1.
The Laredo Bucks traveled to Hidalgo to face their rivals, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees, Wednesday night. This was a pivotal game with both teams playoff hopes on the line.
The Bucks came out firing pucks on net at John Murray, the Killer Bee netminder, but Murray was able withstand the Laredo attack. Each team had a powerplay during the first period, but neither team would be able to take advantage of the opportunity. Late in the first period, at 18:54, right from the face off Kyle Mariani shot the puck from the top of the circle putting it past Murray off the near side post. Joseph Harcharik assisted on the goal that gave Laredo a 1-0 lead to end the period. Laredo outshot Rio Grande 12-9 in the opening frame.
Torrie Jung was spectacular between the pipes during the second period of play. The Bucks successfully killed off two Killer Bee powerplays, one at 8:27 and the second at 17:57. As the middle frame came to a close, the Bucks continued to hold onto their 1-0 lead. The Bees outshot the Bucks 13-11 in the second period.
The Bucks went on the powerplay early in the third period, when Killer Bee Craig Lineker was called for tripping at 2:24. Shortly into the powerplay, Zac Pearson scored a short-handed goal on a breakaway at 2:56 to tie the game 1-1. Moments after the Laredo powerplay expired, Matt Hanson would be called for hooking at 4:35. The Bees' Aaron Lee scored a top corner powerplay goal at 5:40 to give the Bees a 2-1 lead. The Bucks would try and battle back. Coach Dube pulled Torrie Jung with a little over a minute left in regulation, but Matt Hanson was called for hooking at 19:00 forcing Jung to go back into his net. Torrie Jung would try to come off the ice during the powerplay, but Tomas Klempa was able to break free and score a goal at 19:21 sealing the Bees victory at 3-1.
