Rockford Lightning News Release
Sidney Holmes grabbed a career high 20 rebounds as the Rockford Lightning went on to
beat the Michigan Mayhem 120-114 in a thrilling overtime matchup on Sunday.
Rockford won the first two quarters and took a 61-47 lead into the locker-room at
halftime. Michigan clawed their way back in the second half, outscoring the
Lightning 27-15 in the fourth to force overtime after winning the third quarter
31-29. Cordell Henry hit two-three pointers in the extra period as the Lightning
matched their fourth quarter total of 15 points to win the game by six.
Roger Powell led the Lightning with 26 points while shooting 8-for-13 from the
field. Powell is tied with Marlon Parmer at 22.1 points per game to lead the
Lightning this season. The 6-foot-6 forward out of the University of Illinois is
just 350 points away from passing Kendrick Warren for the rookie scoring record with
the Rockford Lightning. He needs to average 19.5 points a game over the team's
final 18 games in order to pass Warren in the Lightning record books.
Veteran guard Ronnie Fields is setting new Lightning records it seems like every
game now. After passing Fred Cofield for all-time minutes played in a Lightning
uniform on Thursday night at the MetroCentre, Fields will return home Tuesday night
looking to pass Jim Lampley as Rockford's all-time career leader in rebounds.
Ronnie needs just 3 more rebounds to move ahead of Lampley.
Rockford is currently on a six-game winning streak and have won seventeen of their
last twenty games. At 22-8, Head Coach Chris Daleo has the Lightning off to the
best start since the 1992-93 season when the team went 23-7 on their way to finish
44-12. Rockford won their final 16 games of the regular season that year before
losing in the American Conference Finals to the Grand Rapids Hoops in the final game
of a five-game series that season under Head Coach Mauro Panaggio.
The Lightning will take on the Albany Patroons and Idaho Stampede on back-to-back
nights starting Tuesday at the MetroCentre. Tip-off for both games is set for 7:05
P.M. (CST). Tuesday night will be a John Jackson poster giveaway while Wednesday
night will be a Roger Powell trading card giveaway. Each Lightning giveaway is to
the first 1,000 fans in attendance. Great seats are still available for the game.
Group and season tickets can be purchased through the Lightning Office by calling
815-874-4232. Single game tickets can be purchased through the MetroCentre Box
Office by calling 815-968-5222.
Lightning fans head on down to the Scoreboard Lounge located inside the Holiday Inn at 7550 E. State Street for the "Chris Daleo Show" hosted by Kristin Carlson of WNTA 1330. The show will run from 5:00-6:00 P.M. with Lightning players and coaches stopping by to show their support and meet the fans.
