Gary Steelheads News Release

GARY, Indiana (January 30, 2006) - The Gary Steelheads, playing their fourth game in five days, fell to the Dakota Wizards at the Bismarck Civic Center in Bismarck, North Dakota, 88-85. For Gary, it is the team's third loss in the last four games. The Steelheads picked up two quarter points with the defeat.

The game was tightly played throughout, with Gary grabbing the first quarter 20-17. Dakota won quarters two and three, leading the Steelheads 67-63 going into the fourth quarter. Gary pulled within a point when guard Eric Chatfield hit a three point shot with 45 seconds remaining. That made the score 86-85. But the Steelheads were shut out the rest of the way, with guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter missing a final three point attempt at the buzzer.

"Snap" scored 23 points to pace Steelheads' scorers, but he had an uncharacteristically poor shooting night hitting just 10-of-28 from the field. He grabbed 6 rebounds and handed out 6 assists in a losing cause. Randy Holcomb added 14 points with 8 rebounds, while Robert Griffin came out of a recent shooting slump with 12 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field. Center Chris Alexander, playing against his former team for the first time in Bismarck, contributed his fifth double-double of the season with 11 points and 17 rebounds.

Wizards all star forward Kasib Powell played a superb game, scoring 23 points with 12 rebounds and 9 assists. He guarded "Snap" Hunter most of the evening. Center Jeremee McGuire added 18 points and 5 rebounds for the Wizards.

After a day off Tuesday, the two teams will meet again in Bismarck on Wednesday night. The Steelheads will then return home to face the Rockford Lightning in back-to-back games Friday night and Saturday night at the Genesis Center in Gary.
