Rockford Lightning News Release
The Rockford Lightning are proud to welcome the Dakota High School Class 2A High
School State Football Champions to the MetroCentre on Thursday, January 19, for the
7:05 P.M. game against the Idaho Stampede.
The Dakota Indians boys' football team finished a perfect 14-0 in route to the first
ever-state championship in Dakota High School history. "First to be First" is the
slogan used to describe this year's incredible season, but it does not stop there
for the Indians. As of Thursday, January 12, the boy's wrestling and basketball
teams are also a perfect 14-0 on their respective seasons. A large number of the
boys on the football team headed straight to the mats after a perfect season on the
football field and have worked hard to carry over the success to the wrestling
team.
This year's football team was a senior dominated class built around hard work and
dedication. Head Coach Jerry Lano states proudly that his team was filled with
"blue collar guys that would grab their lunch boxes and go to work". The Indians
will be honored at halftime of the Lightning game on January 19th where they will be
showcasing their 2005 state championship trophy.
"The Lightning are excited to be bringing out not only a great team, but a great
group of young men", said Lightning General Manager Michael Neville. "They had an
impressive season and deserve to be recognized in the community."
The Lightning are currently in Bismarck taking on the Dakota Wizards as they play the final two games of a four game road trip over the next two days. Tip-off for both Thursday and Friday night's games are scheduled for 7:05 P.M. (CST). Lightning fans can follow along with all the Lightning road action this season by logging on the CBA website at www.cbahoopsonline.com and clicking on the Live Webcast button.
