Rockford Lightning News Release

Muskegon, MI- Twenty-four hours after losing an overtime decision to the Great Lakes Storm, the Lightning took out their frustrations on the Michigan Mayhem. The strategy worked, as the Lightning dominated the second, third and fourth quarters, and defeated the Mayhem 136-109 at the L.C. Walker Arena.

As a team, Rockford shot 57-for-92 (62.0%) from the floor, and the defense held the Mayhem to under 50% (44-for-93, 47.3%) in the game. Rockford played with only seven players, as Stais Boseman, Brant Bailey and Jarrod Gee sat out last night's game for the Lightning. Marshall Phillips dropped his season-high 34 points on the Mayhem, going 12-for-18 from the field and 9-of-11 from the free throw line. Phillips also shared the lead in rebounding with Brian Lubeck, each bringing down nine boards in the Lightning victory. Cordell Henry dished out eight assists in the ball game, and had his season-high 20 points, and Jermaine Walker also chipped in 25 points. Sidney Holmes went 7-for-8 in field goals, totaling 14 points, Brian Lubeck had 20 points for the Lightning and Jermaine Tate rounded out the double digit scorers with 14 points for the night. Charles Gaines led the way for the Mayhem with a double double, with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Rockford picked up six quarter points! in the game, and improve to 26-21 on the year.
