Rockford Lightning News Release
Starting Monday, February 13th, the Rockford Lightning will spend the week out in
the community making several appearances at school functions and community
events.
Assistant Coach Acie Earl will be at Beyer elementary school on Monday at 1:00 pm
with Lightning center Kenyon Gamble to talk to a group of students about the
importance of education, and what it takes to set goals for yourself. They will
also talk to the students about working to achieve those goals and never giving up
on their dreams.
Wednesday, the 15th is a busy day for the Lightning. Coming off their 20th home
game of the 20th anniversary season the night before, Head Coach Chris Daleo will
take several members from the team down to the Fairhaven Retirement Center to play
Bingo with residents from 1:00-3:00 in the afternoon. 2005-06 CBA All-Stars Roger
Powell and Kenyon Gamble will be playing alongside Coach Daleo while Acie Earl and
Sidney Holmes will be making the trip to the Belvidere YMCA to speak with members of
the youth basketball league at 7:00 pm that night. Lightning trainer Jim Halpin
will be making an appearance at Guilford High School that day to speak with a
Freshman Career Awareness class about minor league sports and pursuing a career in
athletic training at 2:00 pm. General Manager Michael Neville will speak to that
same class the following week about careers in the front office for sports
franchises.
The Rockford Lightning will finish up the week as Roger Powell heads to Old Chicago
on Sunday, February 19th for a game watch with the Rockford Area Illini Club.
Illini fans will gather to watch the University of Illinois take on the Indiana
Hoosiers at 2:30 pm. All friends of the Illini are encouraged to stop by and enjoy
great food and drinks while showing their support for the team. Fans can also stop
by to get more information on the Illini night that will be held at the Lightning
game on February 21st with the Illinettes dance team and former Illini basketball
star Kenny Battle.
"I think it's important that we get involved in community affairs", said Coach
Daleo. "It is a way for us to give back to the fans that show support to us every
game."
Lightning fans head on down to the Scoreboard Lounge located inside the Holiday Inn
at 7550 E. State Street for the "Chris Daleo Show" hosted by Kristin Carlson of WNTA
