Lightning fall in home opener
November 21, 2005 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1)
Rockford Lightning News Release
Marlon Parmer continued his strong start to the 2005-2006 season with a 23-point,
7-assist effort in Sunday night's loss to the Gary Steelheads at the
MetroCentre.
Five Lightning players scored in double figures for the second straight game while
the Lightning were able to take 2 quarter points in the loss. 4,123 fans came out to
cheer on the Lightning in the home opener of their 20th anniversary season and help
unveil the 2004-2005 Eastern Conference Championship Banner before the game.
With a 54-49 lead heading into halftime, the Lightning seemed in control of the game
and on their way to a second win on the season. But it was an impressive second half
performance by former Lightning guard Jimmy "Snap" Hunter that pushed the Steelheads
past the Lightning.
Hunter scored 35 second half points while shooting 14 for 17 from the field in the
half and 9 for 9 from the line on the night.
Rookie Kenyon Gamble had another solid performance for the Lightning with 11
rebounds and his second straight game with 3 blocks while coming off the bench.
Adding to the strong play from the Lightning rookies, Roger Powell tallied 18 points
and 8 rebounds, and Marcus Campbell added 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 3
blocks.
