Gary Steelheads News Release
GARY, Indiana (November 21, 2005) - The Gary Steelheads seek to take the lead in the Eastern Conference of the CBA when they host the Michigan Mayhem Tuesday night at the Genesis Center.
The Steelheads return home after an impressive 113-106 win at Rockford Sunday evening. Trailing at halftime, the Steelheads roared back behind 35 second-half points from guard Jimmie "Snap" Hunter. On the evening, he fired in 40 points, which ranks as the top offensive performance thus far in the CBA season. Forward Randy Holcomb added 24 points, with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Darrell Johns contributed a double-double, with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
In its expansion year last season, the Michigan Mayhem proved a very difficult team for the Gary Steelheads. In 11 meetings, the Steelheads could win only 5 of them. This directly impacted the Steelheads' playoff hopes, as Michigan had a losing record against every other team in the division. Tuesday night's game will mark the 12th meeting between these two teams.
Tuesday night's game promises to be a high scoring matchup between the team's leading scorers. Michigan's Alpha Bangura leads the CBA in scoring, averaging 37 ppg. The Steelheads' "Snap"Â Hunter is currently ranked 2nd in the CBA in scoring at 33 ppg.
Tickets are available for the November 18th season opener through Ticketmaster, the Genesis Center Box Office or, call the team office at (219) 882-4222. Game time is 7:05PM.
